Coaching Q & A
What is Business and Personal Coaching?
Diana McLeod, MACP, Business & Personal Coach, answers frequently
asked questions about coaching to help you understand the process and
determine if it is right for you.
What are the benefits of coaching?
Individuals hire a coach when they want to make a career change, have
more balance in their lives, re-evaluate life choices, need help with
relationship issues or simply feel ready for a personal or professional
breakthrough. Coaching provides motivation and energy for a client to
see new possibilities. It's action-oriented, taking clients from where
they are now and supporting them through the necessary changes to
achieve their goals.
What is your role as a business and personal coach?
A good coach acts as an objective advisor to guide you toward your
immediate and future goals in a safe and supportive manner, while
providing confidentiality and encouragement. Coaching looks at past
behavioral patterns in order to focus on where you are today and where
you want to be in the future. Together we develop an action plan toward
the realization of your personal and career goals. My role is to provide
structure, support and feedback, allowing clients to define their path
and guiding them to positive and long-lasting results.
What is the difference between business and personal coaching?
Business coaching is more focused on success in the workplace, while
personal coaching may concentrate more on the desire for a better
self-image and improved relationships. They often go hand in hand, as
coaching is a means of reaching your personal goals both in and outside
of business. As your coach, we'll explore key relationships and discover
ways that you can be more comfortable in your surroundings. In each
case, we'll work together to build the fulfilling and rewarding life you
choose.
How do I recognize the right coach for me?
A good coach is objective and focused on your individual needs. The goal
in my practice is to build mutual trust. The best coach is someone you
feel comfortable talking with at any time. That trust helps clients both
define and achieve personal and professional goals faster and with more
ease than would be possible otherwise.
Does certification or licensing assure a quality coaching experience?
My background includes 23 years as an intensive coronary care specialist
and fourteen- plus years as a psychologist, MA. In addition, I am a
Mentor Coach© graduate. These qualifications provide the credibility
often lacking in a field that does not require certification.
How do psychotherapy and coaching compare?
Coaching is not psychotherapy, it is a way of setting and achieving your
personal and business goals by identifying the behavioral patterns or
key issues that may be blocking your success. Together we look at your
immediate and future objectives and develop strategies to prompt
positive changes with long lasting effects. Coaching concentrates on
controlling your own destiny, without delving deeply into the past.
How long before I can expect results?
From the start, you will begin to recognize the potential of this work.
By taking this first step, you will greatly enhance the journey of
self-discovery. We begin by identifying the issues, and then develop a
strategic plan to shape the changes you wish to make in your life. How
quickly those changes take place will depend on you and your commitment
to your success. I will be there as your advisor, to encourage you,
instill confidence, and facilitate your progress.
How does coaching work and how much does it cost?
While most clients choose to work with their coach by telephone and
e-mail, I am willing to go on-site for crisis management or emergency
consultations. In many cases, clients opt to fly in to meet with me.
Flexibility is not a problem; a good coach is available when and
wherever you need her. Coaching can be a brief and intensive short-term
experience or an on-going process. Fees are based on $150 per hour, are
prepaid monthly, and vary according to the needs of the individual or
corporation. Major credit cards are accepted.
